The event is an open invitation contest showcasing world-class big wave surfers
attempting to ride the biggest waves in the world. Athletic accomplishments will be
recognised through six prestigious awards, chosen by the surfers that participate, fans
that watch the XTreme Video live webcast, and fans following on social media.
Garrett McNamara will host the competition, but he will also be part of the competition.
Hugo Vau, Andrew Cotton, Rafael Tapia, Alessandro Marciano, Alex Botelho, Maya
Gabeira, João de Macedo, David Langer, and Sérgio Cosme have already confirmed their
participation.  Garrett McNamara has been dreaming of a project like this for many years: “It is amazing
to see this event come to fruition. The goal in creating the Red Chargers is to not only
show the world the biggest waves being surfed live in Nazaré, but to showcase the men
and women who risk their lives and sacrifice so much to follow their dreams. Their stories
are truly inspiring and deserve to be told so that others can follow their dreams whether
it’s surfing big waves or opening their own business. It is an honour to be working with
incredible companies who also want to inspire and change the world for the better.”
The Red Chargers has also sent out the call to all creators, Photographers and
Videographers as the winter season has officially kicked off with more solid swells on the
way to Nazaré. If you want to be a part of this season’s awards please visit
www.redchargers.com for the submission guidelines.
This event would not be possible without the support of other partners such as GOMA,
