The Groms of Tauroa

One of the things we love to do when travelling and visiting places is involve ourselves with the locals and put back something into the local community in terms of time and stoking out the local groms, whether that means inviting them to hang out with possible surf stars we have in tow or take a few photos of them in action at their local. The groms really get a big buzz from this and it’s epic to see the flow-on effect that lasts years from these experiences and time well spent in helping to encourage those that don’t get as many opportunities as some other surf zones in NZ.

During this particular swell we hung out an extra day, knowing that the crowds would all bugger off home and that the groms knew that the sand at their form local would still be producing some epic peelers in a dying swell. So off we went around to the fabled points of Tauroa Point to spend the day with Karn Godfrey and Ben Morretti, who both just so happen to have family names that are pretty famous in surfing circles up these ways. While there were still a few greedy old men intent on burning the groms in the lineup, we had an epic day and the boys surfed till they could barely paddle anymore. We cant wait to see how these lads develop over the next few years and to see them shredding their local. Top work grommies!
